HOLLYWOOD: Actor Stephen Root, star of NBC's hit series "NewsRadio", was on hand recently as host/presenter of Hewlett-Packard's first annual "Office Technology Superstar Awards." The event, which was timed to coincide with the beginning of Professional Secretaries' Week, took place on Monday, April 20, at the Paramount Theater in Los Angeles.
The "HP Office Technology Superstar Award," sponsored by the Hewlett-Packard Company, invited people from across America to nominate support professionals who demonstrate dedication, dependability and technological savvy -- the hallmarks of an office superstar. Two winners were chosen and awarded a prize package that included: a trip for two to the awards ceremony and an HP product suite.
Stephen Root, best-known for his role as "Jimmy James", the eccentric billionaire owner of radio station WNYX, was thought an appropriate choice to host an event designed to honor the country's top office support professionals. The demanding boss with a heart of gold kept the audience of nearly 200 secretaries in stitches throughout the presentation.
The Hollywood-Madison Group, a Los Angeles-based company specializing in celebrity endorsements and personal appearances was responsible for securing the artist. The San Francisco office of Porter Novelli Public Relations created the campaign and produced the event.
