Dennis Miller to Host Silicon Valley Fundraiser; B-52s are Musical Guests
HOLLYWOOD: Comedian Dennis Miller will host the first annual, "Silicon Planet", a special event and Aids fund-raiser sponsored by Applied Materials Inc., a leading manufacturer of semi-conductors. Other sponsors include: E*Trade; Microsoft; Citibank; Fry's Electronics and Therma. One hundred percent of gross proceeds will benefit ARIS (Aids Resources, Information & Services).

The event, which will take place on Saturday, October 4, 1997, is the second major fund-raising initiative by Joint Venture: Silicon Valley, a consortium of Santa Clara-based high technology companies charged with revitalizing and further developing the Silicon Valley area. To be staged at a large, converted warehouse in downtown San Jose, "Silicon Planet" will be a marriage of high tech and Hollywood - cutting-edge music, art, fashion and technology. Many celebrities are expected to attend.

Musical guests are The B-52s, best known for their hit song, "Love Shack". There will also be a "Fashionably Loud" fashion exhibit by world-class designers, an off-beat art auction and high-tech multimedia produced by some of Silicon Valley's top special effects artists. The celebrity co-hosts are Andrew Shue and Elizabeth Shue.

The Hollywood-Madison Group, a Los Angeles-based company specializing in celebrity endorsements and personal appearances is responsible for securing the artists. PRx Inc., a leading public relations firm based in San Jose, California is coordinating the event.

"Audience and consumer attitudes have changed, said Jonathan Holiff. We have all become much more jaded and are no longer taken aback to see A-listers doing commercials stateside."
