Happy Days' Tom Bosley, Others, Help Procter & Gamble Test-Market New Product
HOLLYWOOD: Joined by celebrities from sports and literature, Happy Days' star Tom Bosley was part of a recent campaign designed to test-market a new product called ThermaCare. Manufactured by Procter & Gamble, the product was introduced in Midland, TX, and Eau Claire, WI, for the purpose of fine-tuning it for release nationwide.

ThermaCare is a self-contained, wearable heating pad aimed at active older people and sports' enthusiasts who suffer muscle aches and joint pain. It was designed to be worn inside clothing so as to apply heat to the affected areas and extend the amount of time certain individuals can participate in physical activity.

The tactic, which encompassed media tours, trade shows, special events and shopping mall promotions, involved celebrities who best-represented the product's various demographics. Tom Bosley, who is a grandfather in his early seventies, participated in a number of phone interviews on Grandparents' Day. Danny White, formerly of the Dallas Cowboys and Lynn Dickey, formerly of the Green Bay Packer's were also involved.

The Hollywood-Madison Group, a Los Angeles-based company specializing in celebrity endorsements and personal appearances was responsible for securing the spokespersons. Manning, Selvage & Lee Chicago, a leading public relations firm, created the campaign.
