William Shatner, Coolio and Melissa Joan Hart Compete at the Cadillac Grand Prix of Washington, DC  
HOLLYWOOD: Hollywood descended upon Washington, DC, this summer to compete in the Celebrity Race component of the inaugural running of The Cadillac Grand Prix. The event, which drew over 50,000 spectators, was part of the American Le Mans Series. Televised live on NBC to more than 300 million homes worldwide, it marked the first time in 80 years that a major race was held in the nation’s capital.

Based on the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans -- the ALMS is the world's most famous endurance motor sports race. Teams representing Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Corvette, Dodge, Ferrari, Panoz, and Porsche competed. The three-day festival also featured the Grand Prix Gala. Hosted by NBC’s Andrea Mitchell and honoring CNN’s Judy Woodruff, the Gala benefited the Kennedy-Krieger Institute.

Among the celebrities who competed were: William Shatner (“Star Trek”); Coolio, Melissa Joan Hart (“Sabrina: The Teenage Witch”); Steve Harwell (“Smashmouth”); Ian Ziering (“90210”); Tim Matheson (“The West Wing”); and, model Kim Alexis. Steve Harwell won the event followed closely by Tim Matheson and Coolio.

The Hollywood-Madison Group, a Los Angeles-based company specializing in celebrity endorsements and personal appearances was responsible for securing the celebrities and coordinating the race.
